What Are LAUSD Salary Points

If you’re a teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District, LAUSD salary points, simply put, are a way to boost your income – both while you’re working and after you retire.

LAUSD salary point credits are designed to reward teachers who want to continue learning new skills and improving their teaching, throughout their entire careers.

For every 14 salary points you earn, you move to the next box or level (also known as a “schedule”) on the T Salary Table or the L Salary Table. The T Salary Table applies to teachers in the LAUSD school district who have regular teaching credentials. The L Salary Table applies to teachers in the LAUSD school district who have alternative teaching credentials.

To maximize your salary and your retirement benefits, you need to complete 98 salary points by your tenth year of working for the LAUSD district.

Benefits Of Earning LAUSD Salary Points Today
But why wait and stretch it out over ten years, when there’s good reason to earn your 98 salary points as quickly as you can. The sooner you earn your LAUSD salary points, the higher your pay and the sooner you’re eligible for career increments (which also move you into higher pay scale brackets).

If you compare a teacher who earns no salary points, one who earns salary points slowly, and one who earns the 98 salary points quickly, the effects on the salary base for retirement calculations are astounding. The teacher who earned the LAUSD salary points gradually will have a salary base that’s 38.5% higher than the teacher who earned no points and have an additional $200,000 in career earnings. And the teacher who earned the LAUSD salary points quickly will have a salary base that’s 50% higher than the teacher who earned no points and have an additional $400,000 in career earnings.
